Waasi Films is a visual production company founded by Toroes Thomas and Blayre Pichon. These independent filmmakers reach beyond ordinary filmmaking to find and tell stories bigger than themselves.
Waasi is swahili for rebel.
Toroes D Thomas Jr.
Toroes Thomas is an award-winning filmmaker. He Uses his life experiences to create new stories and share them with the world. While attending Digital Harbor High School, he realized his passion for filmmaking, and with the help of his mentors, he began his journey.
In 2016, Toroes and his filmmaking partner Blayre Pichon, started production company, Waasi Films. Leaving Baltimore, Maryland, they began production on their first feature-length documentary in New Orleans, Louisiana, titled Take Me Back to New Orleans.
While in production on their documentary, Thomas experienced the sudden loss of his father. Using his father’s passing as inspiration, he directed and co-wrote The Beach, a short film about an unforgettable experience with his father. The Beach has shown at several film festivals and won Best Short Film at the 2019 Denton Black Film Festival. Thomas is currently writing a feature-length script for, The Beach.
Thomas has worked with Legendary Pictures, the NBA and other international clients. He received his B.S. in Film Production at Morgan State University.
Blayre Pichon
Blayre Pichon is a filmmaker, media production artist and one half of production company, Waasi Films. She has produced award winning films and creative content for commercials as well as short form documentary series. Her storytelling work includes documentary filming in Africa with the NBA as well
as filming and producing content for Hearst Television in the south east United States and Puerto Rico. Pichon is an executive producer and co-writer of The Beach, a short film shown at several film festivals and received an award for Best Short at the 2019 Denton Black Film Festival. Currently, she is developing her first feature-length documentary, Take Me Back to New Orleans, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Pichon received her B.S., in Film Production at Morgan State University.
